Request Card Access

Requirements

In order to gain access to the IDC shops you must fit into one of these categories:

(1) Working with a visiting researcher, resident lab, resident program or Principle Investigator (PI) for the IDC.

(2) Instructor or TA for a class that is currently being held in the IDC. The instructor of the class has been authorized to use the shop as part of the class. Note: students or guests of a class are not granted access.

Procedures

To gain card access, please follow these guidelines:

For category (1): email Alex Radinger at radinger@mit.edu with your name, your MIT ID#, and what group you are working under; your supervisor should be CC’d in this email.

For category (2): in preparation for your class, you will be working with Alex Radinger, and you can discuss with her your need for card access.

 

Responsibilities

Card access into the IDC comes with the responsibility to care for and be aware of your surroundings. Specifics of what is expected is listed below:

-Only use machines that you have previously been trained on.

-Machines that require additional training: laser cutter, ShopBot, 3D printers, miter saw, table saw. Email haynesc@mit.edu if you wish to take any of these training sessions

-Do not prop open any doors. Propping doors allows unauthorized people to enter the IDC.

-Adhere to the other expectations outlined in orientation sessions.

Failure to abide by these expectations may result in removal of access and all associated privileges.
